Where housing is taking off ahead of Western Sydney Airport’s arrival

Western Sydney International Airport has an official launch date, and it’s already driving a wave of new housing across Sydney’s south‑west.

The federal government has announced, after 15 years of planning and seven years of building, Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) will welcome its first passengers on 25 October 2026.

That flight will be operated by Jetstar and will take off from WSI at 11am, delivering passengers to the Gold Coast. The carrier plans to operate 14 flights a week from the hub, with destinations also including Brisbane and Melbourne.

Air New Zealand will commence flights to Auckland on 26 October and Singapore Airlines will begin flights to Changi on 23 November.

Not only a major milestone for the new airport, this marks a significant step for the surrounding Western Sydney area, which is relying on the new transport base to deliver jobs and an influx of new residents.

Located in Luddenham, about 44km from Sydney’s CBD, WSI will deliver international, domestic and freight services without the restrictive curfew that currently impacts Sydney Airport operations.

The airport is a central pillar of the NSW government’s Western Sydney Aerotropolis, and has paved the way for Bradfield, a brand‑new city being developed on land adjacent to WSI.

Backed by major government investment, Bradfield is proposed to include 10,000 new homes and 20,000 jobs and has been positioned as Australia’s first new city in 100 years.

As planning and infrastructure progress, the airport and Aerotropolis are already driving new housing across Sydney’s south-west, particularly in suburbs positioned to benefit from new transport links and future employment hubs.

New communities emerging across the south‑west

With the airport opening now locked in, surrounding suburbs are becoming front‑line housing markets for buyers.

Suburbs including Austral and Leppington sit within the South West Growth Area, a 10,000‑hectare corridor adjoining the Western Sydney Aerotropolis and stretching from Glenfield to the Macarthur Urban Renewal Corridor.

The area is planned to deliver new communities supported by transport, schools and local centres.

Communities including Bloombury, Lotus, 18th AvenueDiluma, Akira, The Crest and Madison Gardens are offering a range of housing options, from smaller, more affordable lots to larger parcels suited to growing families.

Most provide buyers with the flexibility to choose their own builder, appealing to those wanting greater control over design and build timing.

Many of these estates are positioned within minutes of Leppington Railway Station, existing local shops and proposed retail centres.

Western Sydney International Airport is located roughly 13km away, placing Austral within close reach of the emerging employment hubs tied to the airport and Aerotropolis.

Several developments also include plans for future neighbourhood shopping centres, schools, parklands and recreational spaces.

Around Leppington, demand is being underpinned by established rail access and proximity to both the airport corridor and planned regional open space.

Heath Rise, located near Leppington Village and Leppington Station, is a land estate featuring various blocks suited to a range of home designs, whether it's for first-home buyers, growing families or investors.
