She was once one of Hollywood’s most desirable leading ladies, bursting onto the big screen starring opposite Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford in the 1980s.
Despite her fame, Kelly McGillis, who has an estimated net worth of $US 4 million ($A6 million), walked away from Tinseltown for a more quiet life.
Since stepping away from the spotlight, the Top Gun star has made a few property and business moves.

During her hiatus from Hollywood to raise her children, McGillis lived in Mohnton, Pennsylvania.

The entertainer said she chose Key West partly because the atmosphere was so different from Hollywood.
“It’s got a very European attitude,” she said.
“There’s a certain tolerance here that’s quickly vanishing from the rest of America.”
Kelly’s Caribbean Bar & Grill was sold in 2017 and rebranded as First Flight Island Restaurant & Brewery.
Why Kelly McGillis walked away from Hollywood
McGillis has been candid about her decision to leave Hollywood, stating that she chose to prioritise her sobriety and raising her two daughters, Kelsey and Sonora.
“It was very challenging for me to have any kind of sense of self or self-identity or real self-worth other than what I did for a living,” she told Entertainment Tonight in 2019.
“And it just — it didn’t become a priority; what became the priority initially was raising my girls and being the best sober parent I could be.
“I think just my priorities in life changed. It wasn’t like a major decision that I made to leave, it was just that other things became more important.
“I love acting, I love what I do, I love doing theatre, but I don’t know.
“To me, my relationships to other people became far more important than my relationship to fame.”

The actress also addressed why she wasn’t asked back for the Top Gun sequel.
“I’m old and I’m fat and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about … I’d much rather feel absolutely secure in my skin and who and what I am at my age than place any value on all that other stuff.”

At the time, McGillis told ET that she was “in transition, moving into a different phase of life” and hoped her next adventure will consist of lots of travelling.
“I am a home person. I’m really rooted in my home life … I can’t remember the last time I worked,” she said.
“I feel really blessed that I don’t have to work, you know? But I get the option to work, so I’m really blessed in that way. Not many people get that option later in life, so I feel very lucky.”
In recent years, McGillis has been teaching acting at the New York Studio for Stage and Screen in Asheville.
“I feel it is my time to give back and that’s something that I know how to do,” she told Movie Talk in 2013.
