AFL star Charlie Curnow has sold his Torquay beachside escape on Fishermans Beach.

AFL champion Charlie Curnow has punted his Surf Coast base as he prepares for his first pre-season campaign with the Sydney Swans.

The Bellbrae-raised star forward scored $965,000 for the beachfront property at 6/84 The Esplanade, Torquay.

Natural Real Estate, Torquay agent Shaun O’Callaghan handled the sale of the two-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse overlooking Fishermans Beach.

The buyer emerged within a month of the property hitting the market amid strong interest from regional Victorian and Melbourne.

Records show Curnow paid $875,000 for the coastal getaway in March 2021, using it as an escape from Melbourne during his time at Carlton and to visit family members still living in the area.

On occasions, he also rented the townhouse out as short-stay accommodation.

A first-floor, open-plan living area is the centrepiece of the residence, offering ocean views and a north-facing balcony.

The property has access off both The Esplanade and Felix Cres.

Mr O’Callaghan said Curnow installed a sauna on another private deck off the main bedroom, which, along with a sea dip, was great for recovery,

The dual Coleman medallist is a keen surfer who has long used the ocean to take his mind off AFL pressures.

Mr O’Callaghan said the property was “about an affordable as an Esplanade address that you would find”.

It’s sub-million dollar price point spurred the return of a category of buyer that’s been thin on the ground around Torquay.

The main living area has timber floors and a gas log fireplace.

“The key outcome that we found really interesting was that it resurfaced some buyers that were more investment and holiday home type buyers, whereas they hadn’t been frequenting inspections as much lately,” he said.

“It sold to hybrid buyers, owner occupiers/rent the property as well.”

He said while the townhouse was right opposite Fishermans Beach and within walking distance of Torquay’s town centre, there was appeal in it being away from the main hub.

Since joining Swans during the 2025 trade period, Curnow, who played juniors for Torquay Football Club, has swapped the Surf Coast for another beachside suburbs in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

But he retains strong links to Torquay, where he and older brother, retired Carlton player Ed opened the popular About Time Bathhouse at the end of 2024.
