A landmark Port Adelaide heritage building that was home to a beloved SA family business has hit the market for the first time in almost a century.
The former Jaffers Furniture site at 22-23 St Vincent St has been listed for sale after the business closed last year.
Held by the Jaffer family since the business was established 91 years ago, the local heritage listed building is offering a rare opportunity.
Ray White Port Adelaide principal Nick Psarros said properties like it didn’t come along often.

“Jaffers Furniture has been part of Port Adelaide’s fabric for 91 years, and properties with this level of history, character and community connection are incredibly rare,” he said.
“This is a genuine landmark and a once-in-a-generation opportunity.”
“Opportunities to purchase heritage stock of this scale and prominence in Port Adelaide are seldom seen, particularly those with such deep ties to the local community.”
Jaffers Furniture’s closure was announced in January last year, with Heather Jaffer explaining she was retiring after 45 years of carrying the business forward.
Her parents-in-law Max and Ena Jaffer established the business in 1934, converting six cottages they gradually acquired into the showroom known today on St Vincent St.
The store was then passed down to their son and Heather’s husband Roger Jaffer, who ran the business with Heather until his death in 2022.
Her decision to close the business was met with plenty of community support.

The building has plenty of commercial space…
As well as residential space.
It is being sold via a best offers campaign.
In a tightly-held area undergoing significant urban renewal, the property is in a prominent position.
It features a range of different rooms that can be used for both commercial and residential purposes.
The majority of its footprint is workshop space, but it also has offices, three bedrooms and an open kitchen, living and dining room.
Mr Psarros said they were seeing increased buyer demand for character-filled commercial buildings that offered “adaptability and long-term investment appeal”.
“Port Adelaide, in particular, continues to benefit from urban renewal while retaining its historic charm, which makes assets like this especially compelling.”
The property, which is owned by Max Jaffer Pty Ltd, is being sold via a best offers campaign that closes on March 25.
