Olympic swimming champion and Celebrity SAS contestant Mack Horton and his wife Ella have sold their South Melbourne apartment for $940,000.

Horton won a gold medal in the 2016 Olympics’ mens’ 400m freestyle event and bronze in the 2020 Olympics’ 200m freestyle relay.

The four-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist and World Championships gold medallist retired from competitive swimming in 2024.

Horton was also a cast member on the latest season of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins alongside fellow Australian Olympian Emily Seebohm, former cricketer Brad Hodge and Neighbours actor Ryan Moloney.

The television show’s final episode aired in the UK in January.

In 2019, Horton made headlines after refusing to shake hands or share the podium with swimmer Sun Yang at the World Aquatics Championships.

Horton had previously called the Chinese Olympian out as a drug cheat, with Yang later issued with an eight-year ban over doping claims.

Records show the Hortons purchased the two-bedroom apartment located inside a circa-1880s building during 2018.

Polished hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings feature in the home.

The home at 192A Bank St features an open-plan living and dining area, two ivy-draped terraces, a main bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe, and kitchen fitted with stone benchtops and stainless-steel appliances.

Jellis Craig’s Mack Burgoine said the apartment had sold to a young Queensland-based buyer who was originally from Melbourne.

Mr Burgoine said he believed the purchaser was planning to become an owner-occupier after moving back to Victoria.

“He thought the home was unique and his mum even said that he liked the lofty feel and warehouse style which isn’t that common in South Melbourne, and it also has a lot of light which comes in,” Mr Burgoine added.

More than 60 buyer groups inspected the apartment throughout the marketing campaign.

Mr Burgoine said Horton had mentioned he was planning to celebrate the apartment’s sale with a glass of champagne.
