A group of real estate agents in the Northern Rivers region of NSW have been recognised for raising and donating nearly $190,000 over the past year to local causes, including women's safety and children's health.

Over the past 12 months, the Witheriff Group has donated more than $50,000 to the Shift Byron group, which supports women transitioning out of homelessness, often due to domestic violence.

The group also raised $70,000 for childhood cancer charity Hundred 4 Harper through a summer auction event last year.

The group was motivated by the story of three-year-old Harper, the daughter of a local industry peer, who passed away from a rare brain tumour.

It’s why the Witheriff Group has been nominated as a finalist for the Contribution to Local Community Award at this year’s REA Excellence Awards.

Nick Witheriff, real estate agent, director and head of Witheriff Group, said the group was proud to be recognised.

“We are only a small part of all the good things that are going on out there,” he said.

“Serving the community is our number one ethos.

“When we set up the Witheriff Group Community Fund, it was our goal to be able to contribute to the community at a local and broader level, and we've been able to see the funds that we've been able to donate making a difference.”

In addition to their contributions to Shift Byron and Hundred 4 Harper, the group has donated $35,000 to youth and sport development in their area.

They supported Undisputed Boxing and Fitness to ensure continued access for local youth, as well as Kingscliff and Cabarita Surf Clubs, Kingscliff Board Riders, Casuarina Rugby Union, Story Dogs, and Kingscliff Primary School.

The group also supported the Christmas toy drive for the Special Care Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Tweed Valley Hospital, supplying premature babies with singlets, onesies, wraps, and comfort items.

Mr Witheriff said his team had been inspired by many stories – good, bad and otherwise - in their community, which drove them to give back.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to meet many people through my journey in real estate,” he said.

“You are invited inside people’s homes and into their lives to help them sell their home, which is one of the largest financial decisions that they might make in their life.

“You get to know people who have been affected by things like illness, death and other circumstances and it makes you sit back and realise that our job is more than just selling real estate, it’s serving people.”

He said the team’s goal for 2026 was to continue making an impact for those who need it most.

The winners of this year’s REA Excellence Awards will be announced on 11 February 2026.
