Actor, singer and dancer Sophia Katos lived at 260 Dorcas St, South Melbourne, with her sisters after their father Philip bought the home for them.

A South Melbourne house where theatre and television star Sophia Katos lived with her two sisters has hit the market with a $2.1m-$2.2m range.

Sophia is known for her role as prisoner Mel Barrett in the drama series Wentworth, plus Channel 7’s Packed To The Rafters and the ABC’s Seven Types Of Ambiguity alongside Susie Porter and Hugo Weaving.

She’s a prolific theatre performer too, appearing in director Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom the Musical as dancer Liz Holt, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Funny Girl and Not Finished With You Yet, and the upcoming production Saturday Night Fever.

Based on the 1977 film starring John Travolta, the show will be staged at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre from January 8 to 25.

In 2011, Sophia’s father Philip Katos bought the Victorian-era, three-bedroom home at 260 Dorcas St for his daughters to live in when they all started working in Melbourne.

Philip is not in show business himself but is well-known in Geelong for running Philip Katos Fisheries, a local business started by his father in 1965.

He also breeds and owns racehorses including the thoroughbred Felix Majestic.

The gelding, named after Philip’s grandson Felix, has won almost $750,000 in prize money.

Philip is selling the South Melbourne house now his daughters have moved back to the Geelong area or otherwise relocated for work, following a couple years of leasing the address out to tenants.

Philip said the property had been renovated just before he bought it.

He has since installed new airconditioning, updated the kitchen rangehood and painted the home.

Located close to Clarendon St, the abode is near the South Melbourne Market, restaurants, Albert Park Lake and the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The kitchen is fitted with an island breakfast bar, frosted glass splashback, and Miele and Asko appliances.

On the ground floor, an open-plan living and dining area opens to a deck, courtyard and rear car space with lane access.

A study, bathroom and bedroom border the hallway, while two upstairs bedrooms share a bathroom and balcony.

“The location close to the South Melbourne Market has a beautiful aspect out the back, because behind is a big courtyard,” Philip said.

“Even though it’s in a busy area, it’s really quiet there.”

O’Brien property consultant and auctioneer, John Rombotis, said the house would suit a couple or family with a child or children, as it is zoned for Albert Park College and South Melbourne Park Primary School.

“With the study, it’d also be a great work from home option close to the city,” Mr Rombotis said.

The house will be auctioned at 12.30pm on February 8.
