The “Harry Potter House” at 23 Gonzales Street, Amity is on the market.
An Aussie home known as the “Harry Potter House’ is on the market complete with “whimsical style” and a “secret doorway”.
The Queensland residence, made of stone and wood, has been a labour of love for its builder-owner over a 20-year period.

The home is on North Stradbroke Island — accessible via boat from the mainland and 16 km from Brisbane — and is described as a “one-of-kind property”.
“Medieval elements with nautical island touches make this property so unique and memorable,” the listing states.
“The spellbinding blend of contemporary and Gothic Revival influences is lavish and imposing.
“This enchanting haus and magical garden would not be out of place in Europe.”

Real estate agent Gabrielle Baker of Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty – Brisbane is marketing the property with an early $2m price tag.
“Potential buyers and even people who are just curious to see it are absolutely blown away with the build,” Ms Baker said.
“There’s interest for owner occupiers where I’ve got people who want to retire to the island but the bulk of inquiry would certainly be for holiday letting and that’s the nature of Amity.”

Features of the three-level abode include a steep pitched roof, high-raked ceilings, recycled Wool Stores hardwood flooring, under-stair display cabinet, an exposed porphyry stone fireplace, stained-glass windows, and an oversized antique chandelier.
“The timelessness and adaptability to Australian conditions are both whimsical and inspiring,” the listing states.
“Ideal as a dreamy holiday home or perfect for permanent residents.”
There are multiple entertaining areas and a large all-weather deck overlooking the garden and patio area.

The basement rumpus area.
A secret doorway leads downstairs to a basement rumpus area with pool table, bar and bunks.
This area includes decorative basement flooring using recycled granite offcuts, a brass maritime pendant light, quirky motifs carved into the timber treads, and driftwood hand rails.
“The owner is a builder himself and the house has really been something he has just loved doing,” Ms Baker said.
“He would collect a piece of driftwood and turn it into a railing.
“He’s really an artisan and the house is a work of art.”
Outside there is a pizza over.
The second dwelling.
There is also smaller self-contained second dwelling behind the main house which could be used as an artist’s or writer’s retreat.
PropTrack data reveals the median house price on Amity is $1.21m, up 7 per cent over 12 months.
