A genuine Royal Australian Air Force World War II bunker – once used by US forces for secret communications – has hit the market with 30cm-thick concrete walls and bragging rights as one of Australia’s weirdest homes.

The World War II bunker is listed for sale at Mount Tarampa, about an hour wet of Brisbane, thrilling buyers on the hunt for a slice of wartime history.

It could be turned into an Airbnb, or a history cafe, or Queensland’s weirdest home. Picture: eXp Realty/realestatecomau

Kent Rohl of eXp Realty said “80,000 American troops were stationed in Brisbane during WWII” with this bunker part of Australia’s wartime defence network.

He said the bunker overlooked the Lowood Airstrip, where the American air force practised before it later became the base for a RAAF dive bomber squadron.

It is being offered up across two separate titles – a 3.2-acre block with the bunker and a separate 4-acre vacant block – with the sellers initially offering the lots as a package, but open to selling them individually.

The bunker block is listed at offers over $1.4 million, while the vacant land is offers over $500,000.

While the bunker might be the star of the show, the property also includes a separate studio with a kitchenette and bathroom, giving buyers the option of a more practical set up – whether it’s a weekend escape, a hobby space, storage or the ultimate retreat.

In a bonus for buyers wary of Queensland weather extremes, the blocks were listed as totally flood free and have “absolutely magical views” – strange given the bunker was built for secrecy and security.

Mr Rohl has extended open home inspections for the property for two more days to allow interested buyers to walk through history.
