As Anywhere Real Estate embarks on its next chapter as part of Compass International Holdings, it will be doing so without CEO Ryan Schneider.
Schneider was the CEO and president of Anywhere for over eight years prior to its acquisition by Compass, which was first announced in September 2025.
A Compass International Holdings spokesperson confirmed to HousingWire that Schneider, along with Anywhere’s chief technology officer Rudy Wolfs, departed the company in January 2026 after Compass closed its $1.6 billion acquisition of Anywhere.
According to the spokesperson, the departures of both Schneider and Wolfs were agreed upon in the merger agreement set out between the two companies in September 2025.
Compass initially indicated a summer or fall 2026 closing for its acquisition, but after the proposed merger cleared its antitrust review in early January, a shareholder vote paved the way for the transaction to close months earlier than expected.
During Anywhere’s Q3 2025 earnings call in November, held after the acquisition was announced, Schneider told analysts and investors on the call that “the proposed merger with Compass advances that journey by bringing together two of the most innovative and respected organizations in real estate.”
“We expect to create a platform where agents, franchisees and employees can thrive while delivering even greater value to homebuyers and sellers across every phase of the transaction,” Schneider said. “We believe this transaction will deliver the best possible outcome for our customers, agents, franchisees, investors and employees.”
