A centenarian has paid a record price to trade in his Gold Coast mansion for a swanky new beach house in one of the nation’s retirement hotspots.

The sale of 108 Esplanade at Point Vernon for $2.8m smashes Hervey Bay’s previous residential record of $2.55m, set just three months ago by a property in nearby Scarness.

The buyers were a multigenerational family led by a centenarian father and his two adult children, who recently retired from careers on the Gold Coast and decided to make the move north.

Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty agent Lynn Malone said the property sold to the first buyers who arranged a private inspection — and the lift was a key selling point.

“The family fell in love with the lifestyle and practicality of the home,” Ms Malone said.

The sale was contingent on the family’s longtime Monaco Street, Broadbeach, residence selling first.

The home is a new build and features an internal lift, which was a key selling point.

That property was sold off-market by Kollosche agents Michael Kollosche and Matthew Follent, with the family describing it as the “worst house on the best street”.

Proving age has no limits, that home was snapped up for a record price by the 100-year-old buyer’s 86-year-old neighbour.

Ms Malone said the Point Vernon home ticked all the boxes for the family’s next chapter.

“The lift was a key feature, particularly for the father, while the home also offers three king-sized bedrooms with ensuites, multiple living spaces and an easy-care waterfront lifestyle,” she said.

The property is in an amazing spot, overlooking the ocean.

The move was also driven by family ties, with another brother and his wife already living in Hervey Bay and encouraging relatives to relocate.

“Now the two siblings have moved up with their father, and there are plans for other family members to follow.”

Built by Aspiring Homes, the dual-level residence occupies a 613sqm waterfront block overlooking the water and across to K’gari.

The near-new home still has five-and-a-half years remaining on its builder’s warranty and features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a heated swimming pool, walk-in wine cellar, media room and multiple indoor and outdoor entertaining zones.

The lower level houses an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area that flows to an alfresco entertaining space overlooking the water.

In a luxury touch, the main kitchen is complemented by a hidden secondary cooking kitchen designed for food preparation and catering.

An ensuited guest bedroom, dedicated bar, laundry and bathroom are also located on the ground floor.

Upstairs, the master suite and second bedroom both include walk-in robes and ensuites, while a study, media lounge and covered balcony complete the upper level.

Outside, the home features tropical landscaping, a heated swimming pool with water feature and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen with built-in barbecue.

Additional features include solar power, automated irrigation, ducted airconditioning and a double garage.

The $2.8m result comes as Hervey Bay continues to attract retirees and downsizers seeking a more affordable coastal lifestyle, with the record-breaking sale almost four times the region’s median house price of $770,500.
