Woman loses claim to home promised by dying parents

After years spent caring for her dying mother, supporting her sick father and helping keep the family business afloat, a Sydney woman has lost her bid for half of a prized waterfront property she says was promised to her. Jessie Sellar, 39, claimed she gave up her teaching career, scaled back a successful gymnastics business and worked unpaid in her family’s newsagency, after being repeatedly assured she would one day receive most of her parents’ multimillion-dollar Gymea Bay waterfront estate. She took her fight to the NSW Supreme Court, arguing those promises entitled her to a 50 per cent share of her late father Allan Sellar’s property. But despite accepting many of those conversations had in fact taken place, Justice Francois Kunc found the promises were not legally enforceable.
