Champion Homes built its business largely by selling through independent retailers. More recently, the company has taken to buying them.On Monday, the manufactured homebuilder announced it will acquire Timberline Homes for an undisclosed price, its third retail acquisition in roughly a year and a half. The deal doesn’t add manufacturing capacity, but it reflects Champion Homes’ strategic pivot toward direct-to-consumer sales. Manufactured housing is already a top-heavy industry in which three players – Clayton Homes, Cavco Industries and Champion Homes – accounted for 86.4% of the industry’s home production in the first quarter, according to a Q1 2026 report from the Manufactured Housing Institute. Clayton Homes accounted for 46.4% of total market share, Champion Homes ranked second with 22.8% share and Cavco Industries came in third with 17.2% share.
