Aussies gearing up for Halloween are being warned one popular decoration could come with a nasty shock – a fine of more than $300. Marion Council, in Adelaide’s south, has warned residents not to let artificial cobweb decorations spill into public spaces, with offenders facing expiation notices under a rule introduced last year. The move means ratepayers who hang plastic spider webs over footpaths, verges, trees or fences on public land could be hit with fines reportedly worth more than $300. Marion Mayor Kris Hanna said the council had revived its public warning campaign ahead of Halloween, even though he has previously described the rule as a “stupid law”.
