The vendor fell instantly for the ceiling at 8 Linton Lane, Highton, when they bought the house.
Classic 1975 architectural bones provided a strong foundation for a timeless Highton renovation that delivers light, space and mesmerising views.
The two-storey brick home’s contemporary refresh leans into some of its original features, heroing pitched timber-lined ceilings with exposed beams in the main living spaces.
“I knew I wanted to buy it the minute I stepped in and looked up at the ceilings,” the vendor says.

The rest of 8 Linton Lane, Highton, however, was in need of “a bit of love and repair”, with a major renovation completed in August last year.
The vendor says the sunlit interior’s new soft and cosy feel is in stark contrast to the bold and brutalist brick exterior.
Set over two levels, the versatile family home showcases exposed brick walls – now painted white to lighten the mood – alongside pale timber floors, a premium kitchen and sleek bathrooms.
Expansive windows capture views across the nearby Barwon River to Corio Bay from the elevated living zones and the main bedroom suite on the upper level.
Downstairs, a second lounge, retreat and study provide flexibility for growing families.
Watching the sunrise from these windows is one of the vendor’s favourite pastimes.
There’s plenty of space for a basketball ring out in the front yard.
The kitchen has twin Miele ovens, an integrated Miele dishwasher and Miele induction cooktop.
“We loved the bones, the view and the sunlight orientation, the way it allows the light in all day,” the vendor says of their decision to buy the 845sq m property five years ago. “It’s tucked into the hill so it’s not windy but we knew you’d get the best sunrises in Geelong there and we haven’t been disappointed.”
Opening the galley kitchen to the dining area and adjoining deck was a key part of the redesign that’s paved the way for hosting some memorable large functions. The kitchen features a suite of Miele cooking appliances, including twin ovens, and a stone-topped breakfast bar.
“We opened it up to create a bit more flow and to allow some bar seating and the fireplace to be a bit more visible from the kitchen as well, but it certainly makes that whole area feel a lot more modern and open and light and airy,” the vendor says.
The original deck off the dining area has been replaced.
Downstairs offers a second living space, perfect for older children.
Both the main bathroom and ensuite have underfloor heating installed.
Finding the right double-sided, cast-iron fireplace to slot into the hole left by two old gas heaters in the lounge and dining rooms took considerable research. But the handcrafted French Seguin model is millimetre perfect, creating the focal point for both spaces.
Outside, the property has been extensively landscaped and, despite the slope, there’s a flat lawn area, plus space for a fire pit and basketball ring out the front. But it’s the front sitting room overlooking the city that the vendor will probably miss the most.
“I sit every morning with a cup of tea, incense and a candle and watch the sun rise. It’s unbelievably beautiful that spot,” she says.
Maxwell Collins, Geelong agent Laura Vander Noord is handling the sale of 8 Linton Lane, Highton.
Price hopes are $1.345m to $1.395m.
