A local builder who helped build up his marina suburb is selling his award-winning home, 26 years after he constructed it.
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom townhouse at 1/19 Paspaley Pl, Cullen Bay, was built by owner Clive Clements: co-founder of Hawkins and Clements, a Darwin-owned business that still operates today.
We’ve built about 10 properties down in Cullen Bay,” he said; having built his own home over two years from 1999 to 2000.
1/19 Paspaley Pl, Cullen Bay, is being sold by its builder: who helped make nearly a dozen properties across the marina suburb.
“I think the word that keeps on hitting me is tranquil. It’s pleasant to be there, it was relaxing.”
Despite being a townhouse, the property sits on 687 sqm of land, with 45 square metres of storage above the three-car garage and 30 sqm of hidden loft space.
The home’s design won it the 2001 MBA Multiple Residence Award, thanks to its vast open design leading into an expansive view of the marina it sits in.
Being a townhouse hasn’t stopped the home from being a huge 687 sqm property, with two floors and sweeping views of the water.
Floor-to-ceiling windows frame a broad unit that feels larger than life, with a curved staircase greeting residents the moment they enter.
Moving up the stairs will take you to a flexible study area, leading into three of the home’s spacious bedrooms.
This includes the master bedroom: an oversized space with a walk-in wardrobe, an ensuite with corner bath, and a balcony overlooking the whole neighbourhood.
A sweeping staircase takes residents up to three bedrooms and a flexible living area, which can be used as a study.
The master bedroom features its own private balcony, offering a personal and private view of the suburb’s water.
Downstairs, visitors continue into an open living plan under high ceilings, featuring a large fourth bedroom and a huge living and family area.
To the left sits the kitchen space, outfitted with modern appliances and a black stone island for cooking and cleaning, directly connected to the large entertaining layout.
But it’s the outside where the home reveals its best features. A covered alfresco space offers residents a chance to sit outside by the fully landscaped yard, with the marina waters lapping at the edge.
Allowance has been given to build a marina berth and pool on the site, for those interested in expanding the home even further. An additional berth exists to one side of the property, with the second townhouse’s owner open to discussing its use.
The open living plan allows for a huge entertainment space, leading into a covered backyard with room to expand.
Mr Clements said while he and his family hadn’t planned on winning awards with the building, they had worked hard on creating a home they could be proud to stay in for many years.
“It was a really interesting project, fairly intensive – it turned out pretty well,” he said.
“The building itself has got some good cross-flows in it. If you open up all the windows, there’s a nice breeze that comes through.”
For investors interested in renting the home out, you can be expected to earn an estimate of $1,100 to $1,300 per week in payments.
Interested potential buyers can contact Real Estate Central agent Sascha Smithett for further discussion.
With the Clements couple seeking to move in with their daughter, Mr Clements said he would miss the serenity of the home.
“We’ve found it’s so quiet and peaceful here,” he said. “We’ve had four grandchildren grow up there … we were really reluctant to leave.
The home is being sold through Real Estate Central agent Sascha Smithett, who can be contacted for further details. An open home for the townhouse will be held on Saturday morning from 10am to 10.20am.
