Brisbane home prices have fallen for the second month in a row, after interest rate and federal budget fears cut short a three and a half year growth streak. PropTrack’s Home Price Index for July 2026 shows the median home price sank 0.3 per cent last month to $1.06m. The drop exceeded the 0.2 per cent dip in June, which was the first time Brisbane’s home price went down since November 2022. Brisbane’s median home price sank to $1.06m in July, marking the second month of decline for Queensland’s capital. PropTrack senior economist Anne Flaherty said a domino effect of interest rate hikes, changes to the federal budget and reduced competition had led to this two-month dip. “It’s going to continue to become even more of a buyer’s market,” she said. “We’re predicting prices have further to fall before the end of the year.” Ms Flaherty said restrictions on negative gearing and changes to the Capital Gains Tax meant buyers now had less competition from investors. “It is pretty reasonable to assume we’ve seen an overall decrease in buyer demand from a decrease in investor demand,” she said. “The rush to get into the market that we see when prices are rising rapidly isn’t there at the mom...
