Home buyers are flocking to satellite and regional cities to snap up affordable houses, with demand more than doubling, and even tripling in some hotspots, over the past year. New data from realestate.com.au shows buyer demand for houses has more than doubled in 46 regional suburbs across Australia during the year to June. Buyer demand is measured by key enquiry numbers per listing in a suburb, which factors in a range of high-intent actions such as emailing an enquiry, calling the agent or downloading documents. Enquiry data serves as a gauge of buyer demand, and tracking changes in buyer enquiry can determine whether the level of interest in a suburb is rising, falling or remaining steady.The data shows buyers are increasingly looking outside of Australia’s capital cities, focusing on locations where there are jobs, schools, healthcare and other amenities, as well as more affordable home prices. NSW, Victoria and Tasmania were home to 13 regional suburbs where demand more than doubled over the past year, followed by Queensland (4), Western Australia (2) and Northern Territory (1).
