A Sydney renter has called out Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax after her rental payments ballooned by $100 a week. Investment strategist Jessica Amir was paying $700 a week for her one-bedroom apartment near the beach but said that price jumped immediately after the federal budget changes in May. Mr Albanese moved to overhaul negative gearing and capital gains tax incentives in a bid to shift Aussie investors away from purchasing existing properties and into building new ones. Jessica Amir says she was already living in a mould-infested apartment and then she copped a $100-a-week rent rise.
