In what may be a first for the NQ real estate market, a rural property has been listed for sale with its tsunami-safe location the main selling point.

For sale by owner, the 2023 sqm property in Torrens Creek has been listed on realestate.com.au for $800,000 or near offer.

The ad not only talked up the property’s ideal location “in the middle of the ideal safe zone for Australia”, but also warned readers of an impending disaster.

“A huge tsunami will hit the west coast of Australia very soon,” the listing said.

“Then, when the earth’s poles flip, a massive wall of water will hit the east coast.”

The writer of the listing even provided a video about safe zones and disaster zones.

While unique, the marketing angle was working with more than 17,400 visits to the listing on realestate.com.au so far.

The property sits 470m above sea level on the western side of the Great Dividing Range and 280km inland from Townsville.

It has a fully-furnished three-bedroom home with airconditioning, fireplace with cooking trivets, small off-grid solar system and gas hot water.

The property also has fruit trees, fire pit and garden shed.

The listing also noted the property could be perfect for a business venture such as a shop front, BnB, roadside stall or market garden as it had Flinders Highway frontage and an open sunny position.

“Large domestic town water allocation and good red soil for growing vegetables and fruit trees,” the listing said.

“No chemicals have been used.”

The property is in the small community of Torrens Creek, home to the Oasis Exchange Hotel with restaurants, bar, small grocery shop and even soft serve ice-cream.

The town sits 50km from Pentland, 90km from Hughenden, 160km from Charters Towers and 280km from Townsville.
