A corner block house in the Brisbane suburbs saw the highest number of bidders across Australia this past week – and the money from the sale is all going to charity.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom property at 96 Kilmorey St, Carindale, saw 36 registered bidders on the Saturday afternoon auction.

The brick home is one of two deceased estates owned by the same local resident. The owner was a well-known member of her community in East Brisbane, having owned each of her houses for several decades.

96 Kilmorey St, Carindale: a deceased estate which attracted a whopping 36 registered bidders at auction, the largest turnout in the country that week.

When she passed away, a trustee was appointed to help sell her two homes, under the condition the proceeds would go to a series of animal charities.

Ray White Bulimba agent Brandon Wortley was appointed for the sale, and said many of the old owner’s friends and neighbours went through the house during the campaign.

“She used to be a bit of an opera singer and piano teacher,” he said. “[They had] nothing but kind words to say about her.”

The home was one of two where the proceeds would be going to a series of animal charities, as the late owner requested.

Mr Wortley said around 30 per cent of the groups coming through the house registered as bidders, which he was an unusually high ratio.

“It was the top bidder auction of my career,” he said. “We had interest from families, investors, developers, you name it … it was a sold brick home on a corner block in a nice part of Carindale, so it ticked a lot of boxes for a lot of people.”

The auction began when auctioneer Peter Burgin collected a starting offer of $900,000, and 11 active bidders soon got involved in the bidding war.

The house saw a sea of interested parties thanks to its sturdy build and corner block position, from families to investors and developers: all with different goals for the house.

The property hit the market at $1.47 million, and saw 52 bids throughout the long and competitive battle.

“4 of those parties were still active in the final $10,000, which is quite uncommon – normally it’s only down to two,” Mr Wortley said. “It was a very fun auction.”

The final bidder won by only $100, and the home sold for $1,690,700.

The home sold to a young couple for $1,690,700, after a wild 52-bid auction. The owners intend to renovate the home for them to live in as owner-occupiers.

The winners were a young couple who intend to move in and renovate the home as owner-occupiers.

Several animal charities will be receiving the funds from this auction. This is also true of the late owner’s upcoming auction at 23 Stanley Tce, East Brisbane.

“I love hearing that; every now and then it does happen, but not often,” Mr Wortley said.

“It goes to demonstrate what kind of woman she was when she was alive.”
