Olympic champion Libby Trickett is pocketing $4000 a week renting out her $20m waterfront mansion while plans to replace it with her dream home are being drawn up.

The gold medallist and husband, Luke, a former national swimmer turned entrepreneur, recently settled on the five-bedroom Virginia Ave mansion in Hawthorne, and have since leased it out to a local family for two years.

Place New Farm leasing agent Josh Hicks said the Tricketts had hoped for $4950 a week, but most inquiries were for three years or more, so they negotiated a lower rate for a lower lease term.

The Tricketts have leased this property in Virginia Avenue, Hawthorne, for $4000 a week.

“We had heaps of interest — some from families with budgets of up to $8000 a week,” Mr Hicks said.

“A lot of people are looking for long leases at high prices for properties of this calibre at the moment. Mostly locals who are building big homes that will take two or three years, and they want something they can live in that matches their lifestyle.”

Mr Hicks said properties with tennis courts and pools in blue-chip suburbs like New Farm, Ascot, Bulimba, and Hawthorne, were in high demand.

The waterfront property has amazing views of the Brisbane River and city skyline.

The Tricketts are planning to demolish the current home on the 2175sq m site and replace it with a seven-bedroom property with a build cost of at least $10m, designed by award-winning architect Shaun Lockyer.

The new home will likely be built around an established coniferous tree on the property and they plan to remove the tennis court to give their five kids, aged between 10 years and two months, more open space.

Each bedroom would have its own ensuite. A sauna, or wellness room, is part of the initial plans, along with a home gym and expanded rooftop terrace.

The Tricketts will live in their Seven Hills property in the meantime.
