The South Yarra house where Australian filmmaking couple Nadia Tass and David Parker made the gadgets for their cult flick Malcolm sold for $3m on Saturday.

A comedy caper starring Colin Friels, it showcased set pieces such as cars which split in two and a clown’s head that could blow smoke bombs.

The 1986 Australian Film Institute’s Best Film award winner follows a brilliant inventor who helps his flatmates plan a bank heist.

The residence also served as a production office for Malcolm and several creative projects.

Parker and Tass’ other films include Amy with Rachel Griffiths and The Big Steal with Ben Mendelsohn, Claudia Karvan and Steve Bisley, plus the television series Stark based on a best-selling novel by comedian Ben Elton.

Parker and Tass moved out of the four-bedroom home at 14 Lang St some years ago and put the abode on the market in November.

Marshall White’s Richard Mackinnon declined to comment on the sold price that was posted on realestate.com.au on the weekend.

He said the buyer was planning to renovate the residence which features an indoor pool, exposed brick fireplaces and main bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.

The home passed in on a $2.91m bid and sold afterwards.

Victoria recorded a preliminary 64.2 per cent clearance rate from 769 early results this week.

According to PropTrack, 750 homes across the state are slated to go under the hammer next week.

Ray White Victoria chief auctioneer Luke Banitsiotis said the agency’s own 306 auctions recorded a 71.2 per cent preliminary clearance rate this week, about 10 per cent higher compared to the same time in 2025.

Mr Banitsiotis said some people who had already sold their homes and were keen to buy a new home before Christmas might boost next week’s clearance rate a little bit higher.

Filmmakers Nadia Tass and David Parker raised their sons at the South Yarra house, and Tass’ mother lived there until last year.

Ray White Victoria chief auctioneer Luke Banitsiotis says there’s still plenty of buyers who remain active in the market as Christmas approaches.

As for 2026, he said the Victorian government’s proposal to require a property’s reserve price to be published at least seven days prior to an auction could lead to an adjustment period as the industry figured out how it would operate.

But following this, Mr Banitsiotis said the auction market should get back to normal.

The government is planning to present the legislation to parliament next year after a period of consultation with stakeholders.

However, Mr Banitsiotis pointed out this would not stop some properties from selling quite a ways above reserve if buyer demand was there.

“For example, last week Ray White CRE declared a reserve of $850,000 on a property which sold for a bit over $1m,” he said.

The two-bedroom apartment at 2 Laurens St, West Melbourne, changed hands for $1.02m and was listed by agency director Toby Campbell.

57 Tiverton Drive, Mulgrave - for herald sun real estate

57 Tiverton Drive, Mulgrave, has set a new $2.666m house price record for its suburb.

A standout result from this Saturday was a house which set a new $2.666m record price for Mulgrave, in Melbourne’s south east.

The French Provincial-style home at 57 Tiverton Drive was advertised with a $2m-$2.2m range, in a campaign overseen by Ray White Judd White Group director Ryan Zhu.

Mulgrave’s previous $2.602 house price benchmark was set by 614 Springvale Rd in November.

Mr Zhu said that out of four bidders, the Tiverton Drive five-bedroom house was bought by a family who were planning to have three generations live there, from grandchildren to grandparents.

“During the campaign, there were a lot of buyers coming to see this type of house (French Provincial) from Keysborough, Rowville and also local Mulgrave families looking to upgrade,” he said.

His colleagues Dexter Prack and Jourdain Creigh acted as dual auctioneers.

32 Browning Ave, Clayton South - for herald sun real estate

Multiple buyers competed to secure 32 Browning Ave, Clayton South, at a “crazy” Saturday auction.

Also in Melbourne’s south east, a trio of two-bedroom units at 32 Browning Ave, Clayton South, shattered expectations when they sold for $1.522m.

McGrath’s George Midas said the $1.27m second bid was already above the $1.175m reserve, prompting him to declare the 878sq m address on the market.

“This is a crazy price,” Mr Midas said.

“I’m over the moon for my vendor but concerned for other young buyers in the market.”

About seven bidders took part in the auction including three online buyers, with more registered potential bidders who did not end up putting their hand up.

Mr Midas said they were mostly investors, with a Springvale-based businessperson winning the keys.

11 Mayfield Grove, Altona Meadows - for herald sun real estate

11 Mayfield Grove, Altona Meadows, attracted six bidders.

In the city’s western suburbs, a four-bedroom townhouse at 11 Mayfield Grove, Altona Meadows, fetched $770,000.

Ray White director Anthony Anile said the reserve was $650,000, at the top of the $600,000-$650,000 listed range.

Out of six bidders, a family with young children emerged as the residence’s new owners.

Mr Anile said 80 groups had inspected the property, attracted by the price point, fairly new build, 338sq m block and lack of body corporate fees.
