The four-bedroom house at 40 Copeland Cres, Nakara, has a massive mural of a red-tailed black cockatoo on the side of the building.

The owners of a four-bedroom home in Darwin will be leaving behind a literal work of art when their house sells at auction.

Local couple Sam and Michael Anderson commissioned a full-size mural to be painted on the side wall of their home at 40 Copeland Cres, Nakara, now on the market with Ray White Darwin.

The painting was commissioned by its owners, who are selling the home at auction with Ray White Darwin.

The massive red-tailed black cockatoo was painted by Angelina Gadient, a WA-based mural artist who has worked on projects around the world.

Ms Gadient posted a timelapse video of her work on the project to her Instagram page, and thanked the owners for the chance to make it.

“It’s one of my favourite murals and the story behind it is so touching,” she said.

Artist Angelina Gadient said it was one of her favourite pieces she had ever done.

Owner Sam Anderson said the piece was made in honour of his family’s connection to the native wildlife and their own pets.

Sam Anderson said the mural was a way for the couple to honour their connection to the native wildlife in the area, along with their connection to their pets.

“The birds have a deep spiritual meaning to us,” he said. “You can hear heaps of birds from the house and it’s super close to nature, so I just wanted to celebrate that.”

The mural is the latest of many changes to the home since it was built in 1973.

The house has been extensively upgraded since it was built more than 50 years ago.

The property has seen regular renovations and upgrades in the last seven years alone, now a modern open-plan home with multigenerational living potential.

Sitting on 817 sqm of land size, the property is surrounded by tropical gardens on all four sides, with multiple verandas at the front and back of the house.

The upper floor is home to three bedrooms and a study, with a built-in sitting room for those using the master bedroom.

The upstairs kitchen and living room are connected to a shaded balcony through sliding glass doors, offering a view of the dense gardens surrounding the driveway.

The home is surrounded by tropical gardens and has an abundance of natural light, thanks to renovations that expanded the building’s windows and doors.

Mr Anderson said the couple worked hard to bring more natural light into the home when they renovated it.

“Any way we could get into the house we did,” he said, “so every solid door we replaced with a glass door.

“The house generally just has much more light in it than elevated tropical homes normally do.”

The house has potential for multigenerational living across the top and bottom floors.

Meanwhile, a massive open-plan living space can be found downstairs, along with a second living area that doubles as a huge spare bedroom.

With a downstairs kitchenette and an updated laundry, the Anderson family’s renovations helped give the home potential for dual occupancy living.

An alfresco entertaining space sits outside the lower floor, with a shed and an in-ground saltwater pool right by the house’s side.

An on-site auction will be held for the property on June 16.

While the couple are moving interstate, Mr Anderson said the two would miss the peaceful convenience they had found while living in Nakara.

“We spent a lot of time in the gardens,” he said. “I’ll miss the fact that you can see them from every room of the house … it’s just a great family home in a quiet, safe, nice suburb.”

The home will be going up for an on-site auction on June 16.
