For sale: 12 Springwood Close, Donvale.
A double-storey, four-bedroom home designed with landscaped gardens, gazebo, cubby house, in-ground pool and spa in Donvale was just a block of land when vendor Siemon Pleysier paid $45,500 for it nearly 40 years ago.
While Mr Pleysier said it was “one of the best decisions” he ever made, at the time he wasn’t totally convinced.
“The reason for buying the property at the time was a threat from my mother,” he explained.
“She wasn’t happy with my spending habits and partying at the time.

“She said I had three months to find a property and commit to it, otherwise the board I was paying at home was going up significantly. I was 19 at the time.”
Taking a hands-on approach, Mr Pleysier said that “everything inside and outside our home I have made.”
“Every piece of furniture, kitchen, bathrooms, wardrobes, and wall units.
“Outside the same – every plant, all of the paving, retaining walls, gazebo. This home we designed and built to give our family the perfect life together.”
The main living zone combines lounge, dining and kitchen zones with picture windows overlooking the gardens.
The kitchen has stone benchtops, stainless steel appliances including a 900mm cooktop.
The four-bedroom family home on the 956sq m property at 12 Springwood Close, Donvale, has been listed for the first time.
Both family living and entertaining are key design elements, with lofty ceilings creating a grand sense of scale, and an open-plan family area with a fully equipped chef’s kitchen positioned at the heart of the home.
“We wanted multiple entertaining areas that would allow for large family gatherings and would be comfortable for all,” Mr Pleysier said.
An open fireplace makes for a cosy spot in the formal lounge.
The main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.
“The house has performed flawlessly. Cosy open fire in the winter, separate formal dining.”
Downstairs, a rumpus and adjoining bedroom with sliding doors that open onto an outdoor zone and entertaining deck, creates a private retreat for guests or young adult children, or as the vendor’s family have opted for, a private games room.
“Downstairs games room onto a large decking with a barbecue allowed for lots of parties while not disturbing anyone upstairs,” Mr Pleysier said.
The games room downstairs opens onto a large deck with a barbecue, ideal for parties.
The four-bedroom residence is surrounded by lush gardens and parkland.
Located on a private, leafy cul-de-sac next to Baradine Terrace Reserve with direct access to the Mullum Mullum Linear Creek Trail, Mr Pleysier said the location is another highlight of the property.
“We live in a beautiful park setting with only one set of traffic lights between us and the Yarra Valley,’ he said.
“There are three excellent schools within walking distance, it’s minutes to the Eastern Freeway and a neighbourhood filled with amazing families.”
Barry Plant Doncaster East agent Michael Steenhuis has scheduled the auction on November 22 at 3pm with a price guide of $1.58m to $1.65m.
